SoundToys have announced the release of Little AlterBoy, a vocal manipulation, auto-tune and pitch shifting processor in VST/AU/RTAS/AAX plugin formats for Windows and Mac OS X. The plugin is available as a free download for a limited time period.
Similar to the Native Instruments tradition of giving away awesome tools for free during the Christmas period, SoundToys have been giving away some fantastic goodies during the the SXSW conference and festival for the past couple of years. Last year they offered the brilliant Little PrimalTap delay plugin as a free download and this time around they’re giving away Little AlterBoy, a surprisingly versatile and powerful vocal processing effect.
Little AlterBoy works as a simple auto-tune effect, a pitch shifter (this can also work fantastic on other types of sounds and not just vocals), a harmonizer, a robot-style vocal processor, and lots of other stuff if you combine several effects. According to SoundToys, their goal was to create a tool which would deliver “a whole slew of classic vocal tricks”, from old school classics like harmonizing and robot voices to modern time favorites such as the auto-tune effect. My favorite feature of the plugin so far is the powerful pitch shifter module, which works absolutely great for turning almost any sound into an EDM-style build-up effect.
